On 10 Sep 2026, Covenant came out of stealth with Anthem, a heavy-payload deep precision strike weapon built for mass fielding (a16z Substack / company, Sep 9). Company numbers: $250m raised, 200+ test flights since Aug 2025 including with the U.S. military, Dallas 105k sq ft plant opened, and later this year a 110k sq ft German plant with an almost entirely European supply chain plus a smaller Israel line. Target: thousands of Anthems a year from 2027. Reuters adds ~$150m in orders booked and a mid-six-figure unit price at full rate; combined plant capacity aimed at about 12,000 a year. Europe already pledged deep-strike money through ELSA and Trinity House. Those programs are years out. Covenant is putting a Saxony line on the calendar now.

Why it matters: Europe's long-range strike gap just got a foreign-founded factory with a European BOM. Edition candidate: who actually owns Europe's deep strike when the plant is in Germany but the stack is Silicon Valley.

Ground A (Berlin/Düsseldorf, founded Jan 2026) closed a €9.1m pre-seed in June, led by Vsquared, with Quantum Systems, Arx Robotics' Stefan Roebel and others on the cap table, and stepped out of stealth on Sep 8 (company). Flagship GA 1000: Euro-pallet footprint, radar + AI vision + laser effector, human decides the shot. Modular series production in Germany; next financing and capacity push eyed for 2027.

Why it matters: Six months from incorporation to a laser C-UAS on the test stand. Europe needs effectors that ship by the pallet, not by the decade.

Italy and Greece signed the Implementing Arrangement in Rome to transfer two in-service FREMM frigates (Carlo Bergamini and Virginio Fasan) to the Hellenic Navy via Fincantieri (EDR / Athens News, Sep 8-9). Greek reporting puts the ships at about €460m in current condition, first hull eyed 2028 and second 2029, with Greek industry written into maintenance and systems work. Option talk for two more remains open.

Why it matters: NATO southern flank upgrading with ships that already exist. Speed over greenfield.

Saab took a ~SEK 2.9bn (~$303m) order from Sweden for continued work on future manned and unmanned combat aircraft, contract 2026-2028 with options through 2030 (Reuters / company, Sep 9). Comes after Saab showed a full-scale unmanned combat air concept in August.

Why it matters: Stockholm is buying the software and airframe R&D before the next fighter beauty contest finishes arguing.

Ukrainian-Estonian DoD Solution and Estonian Defsecintel signed a MoU to fuse Defsecintel's EIRSHIELD C-UAS stack with DoD Solution's AURA onboard AI for joint counter-drone tests in Ukraine, Estonia and elsewhere in Europe (AIN, Sep 9). DoD Solution already partners with Dutch Axelera AI on onboard compute for contested EW.

Why it matters: Frontline software meeting Baltic hardware. The C-UAS stack is becoming a Baltic-Ukrainian product line.
