ctg. morning brief, 4 Nov 2026
On 4 Nov 2026, London's Callosum closed a $100m seed led by Atomico, six months after coming out of stealth with a $10.25m pre-seed. Plural, DCVC and the UK Sovereign AI Fund are in. Callosum says it is the fund's first ever investment. Cerebras is the flagship chip partner.
Why it matters: Callosum's software sends each part of an AI workload to the chip and model best suited to it. That is a bet that inference will not be one-vendor forever, and a government fund just picked it as its first ticket. One of the largest seeds in Europe, no valuation disclosed.

EuroHPC split the AI gigafactory deadline. Large-scale bids (Lot 2) are still due 3 December 2026. Medium-scale bids (Lot 1) now have until 4 February 2027, so member states can finish national budgets and sign financial commitments.
Why it matters: Read it next to SemiAnalysis (3 Nov): by their count SpaceX has 3.6GW under construction, has raised its 2027 target to ~13GW, and took 91 days to retrofit 210MW at Colossus 2. Their numbers. Europe's bottleneck for its biggest compute programme is a budget signature. Edition candidate.

Erlangen's Quint Computing raised €9.1m led by Vsquared, with Quantonation, Nucleus Capital, Faber, Vanagon, ZOHO.VC and IQM founder Mikko Möttönen. Plus a €2.2m EIC Pathfinder grant. The company calls it Germany's largest first round for a quantum company.
Why it matters: Quint suppresses qubit errors inside the superconducting circuit instead of throwing hundreds of physical qubits at each logical one. It claims up to 100x less overhead and energy once fully implemented. FAU spin-out founded October 2025, aiming for ~40 people by 2028.

Vienna's Tumbleweed raised €6.9m led by Pact, with Vanagon, PROTOTYPE and EWOR. It says it is Austria's largest SpaceTech seed round ever.
Why it matters: Small country, record round. Space hardware seeds are getting easier to raise outside the usual Paris, Munich, London triangle.
