This map tracks announced, under-construction, and operational AI-relevant data center infrastructure globally, with a focus on illustrating Europe's compute gap relative to the US, China, Gulf states, India, and Asia-Pacific.
What's included: Hyperscale and AI-focused data centers with publicly announced capacity of ~25 MW or more. Colocation hubs are included where they represent significant regional clusters. Enterprise and edge facilities are excluded.
Capacity figures: MW and GW numbers represent IT load capacity (not total power draw) where specified by the operator. Where operators report total power, we note this. "Announced" capacity includes all phases, some of which may take 5-10 years to complete.
GPU estimates: H100-equivalent GPU counts are normalised to NVIDIA H100 FP8 performance. Estimates draw on Epoch AI's GPU cluster dataset (which covers ~20-37% of known H100s), SemiAnalysis, and company disclosures. Regional totals are indicative, not definitive.
Limitations: China data center capacity is likely underrepresented due to limited public disclosure. Gulf state announcements are ambitious and some may not reach completion. US figures may undercount classified/government facilities. This map will be updated as new data becomes available.
